Russian House in Dhaka concludes week long celebration of 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s Independence

From 22 to 28 March, the Russian House in Dhaka hosted celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s Independence. During the opening ceremony of the festive programs, the Chairman of the Liberation War Academy Trust Abdul Kalam Azad and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University Shahinur Rahman spoke about the heroic struggle of the Bengali people for their independence, the sacrifices made for this lofty goal (about 3 million killed) and urgent assistance of the USSR as within hostilities as in postwar years of the young republic, which needed economic reorganization and building a new state structure.
During the memorial seminar, the director of the Russian House Maxim Dobrokhotov drew attention to the historical nature of bilateral ties between the Russian Federation and Bangladesh, their continuity and nowadays progressive development in the political, economic and cultural spheres, interaction in the field of higher education.
To honor this momentous date, an exhibition of famous artists and a children’s drawing competition were organized to memorize the fallen heroes for freedom of Bangladesh.
