Mentionable that during the last phase of our liberation war in 1971, a small group of fearless people came forward to safeguard this nation and formed he “Kilo Flight”. Alouette-3 helicopter, which took part in several successful missions during Liberation war, was one of the 03 aircraft of Kilo Flight. On 20 December 1971, the first operational Squadron of BAF started its journey by the name of No 501 Rescue Squadron, with the said Alouette helicopter in its inventory. Thus, the journey of 1 Squadron began as the most operational Squadron of BAF. Later, on 11 December 1975, the Squadron was renamed as No 1 Squadron. Since 1979, 1 Squadron BAF has been providing support to Bangladesh Army and BGB in Chattogram Hill Tracts in various aspects. Beside its regular activities this Squadron remains open throughout the calendar year to serve the country without any interspaces. Even during this COVID-19 pandemic situation, this Squadron’s operational activities did not stop for a single day, rather provided full operational support in CHT upholding the name and fame of BAF in National and International arena. In recognition 1 Squadron BAF has achieved the prestigious both ‘BAF Color’ and ‘National Standard’ on 14 May 2018 and 05 Nov 2019 respectively as a symbol of immense patriotism, supreme sacrifice and tireless efforts of Squadron members.
